About Kathak
Kathak is one of the eight forms of Indian classical dance and has its origins in northern part of India. Story tellers used to tell the stories from the epics like Ramayan, Mahabharat and Puran in temples which gradually got converted into a classical dance form, which is today known as kathak. Traditionally the stories were of Radha and Krishna, in the Natwari style but the Mughal invasion of northern India had a serious impact on the dance. Kathak is found in three distinct dance forms, called gharanas, named after the cities where the kathak dance tradition evolved - Jaipur, Banaras and Lucknow. This North Indian dance form is inseparably bound with classical Hindustani music and the rhythmic liveliness of the feet is accompanied by the tabla/Pakhawaj.
About Guru

Mrs. Madhuri Bhave is the eldest daughter among the three girls in Cholkar Family who has a teaching experience of more than 3 generations. She had an affinity towards dance since her childhood and started acquiring the skill of Kathak under the able guidance of Late Smt. Janaki Damle from the age of 7. She completed her Visharad in 1990 and was also Gold medalist in Alankar. Her only aim in life is to teach kathak to as many students as possible and probably because of this humble attitude Swayamsiddha Kathak Kala Kendra can boast to have the highest number of students in the city of Vadodara in a private run class. Approximately 16000+ aspiring dancers have learned Kathak from the institution over last 27 years.
